As teachers we deal with people, with their feelings and emotions. We are inserted in a very individualist society, in which people can't find other people to talk to. Students still see us as somebody that may "have answers".

We, as teachers and leaders of the group, should stick to our objectives as English instructors. That's what the whole group expects from us. Then, if we have time to be psychologists, ok, but that would be extra work...

I think we just can't ignore completely our students' problems. Sometimes we have to be psychologists in and outside a classroom. It's part of being a professional of education.

I have dealt with it successfully, in most of the cases, just by being all ears and demonstrating that I care. All that they expect is someone who can listen to them.

The teacher as a leader should be there to help. To show the student the best way to succeed in learning, despite of the problems. In case the student fails even after all the support, the teacher will be there to guide, to inidcate the way to recover.

Students sometimes can't concentrate during the class if they are worried about a personal problem. Sometimes they share their doubts with us, teachers, because they believe we can help them with advices.
