The problem is that students, in general, put all the responsability of the learning process on the teacher. If they perceive that they are responsable, they will deal much better with the language learning.

Another important point is to be aware of students "mood" all the time, so we can deal with this kind of situation as soon as possible.

I totally agree with Felipe Martins from Curitiba. That's exactly what I would say.

Finding Out their reasons to study English, paying attetion to their needs, preparing and studying topics and classes... These are just some of the best things we can do to students motivation.

I´d say that it´s important for the teacher to be motivated as well. A boring class from a laid back teacher is quite 'the' demotivator. The teacher should not be a clown in class. Preventing them from sleep, however, is a great plus.

Sometimes there are things that we never think about. That's the most helpful thing to do, find out why the student studies english, after that is pretty easier to help them.

It´s really important to talk to these demotivated students and to help them to understand the reason why they are feeling like this. We have to do our best but sometimes it´s going to depend only on their will. Very good!

Teachers are certainly a key element to keep students motivated, but I must agree with Sérgio when he says that adults should do some sort of sel- evaluation.

I totally agree with you, Sergio!! Our students are adults and a nice and clear talk with a demotivated student is the best to way to identify the real problem. When we find the real reason of the demotivation, we can help the student properly.

Since many human behaviours are driven and sustained by emotions it becomes important to understand what motivates and demotivates students. Well done it!
